King Zedekiah like Adam broke covenant with God and turned to the strength and wisdom of man seeking to preserve an earthly kingdom. And though every transgression and disobedience in those days received a just punishment (Hebrews 2:2), yet men today ignore the new Adam and the true Israel in whom we who believe find our Sabbath rest. How will we escape (the same just wrath) if we neglect such a great salvation? But we see that like Israel turned its roots from the waters in which it was planted and instead trusted in an eagle who to them appeared mighty to save them, so today America as ethnic Israel’s new eagle, now as wicked as Egypt ever was, is supposed to be the salvation of Israel. Read first 2 Chronicles 36:1-20, 2 Kings 24:20, Hebrews 1-4, Jeremiah 23:5.
This brief poem is based on Ezekiel 17 tied in with the other passages mentioned.
Will it thrive?
To Zedekiah’s eagle
Israel cried
Ignoring the sent one
Hardened in pride.
They’d forgotten their eagle
Who when they were small
Had planted them by waters
With branches turned toward Him, they’d grown tall
Too proud to endure the pruning
Of Babylon captivity
They would turn to a new eagle
And to Egypt they’d flee
Will he succeed?
Pharaoh’s mighty army
Did not help in the the fight
All the strong men killed,
All survivors took flight.
Every transgression and disobedience
Of Israel and their Kings
Received the just punishment
Of death! - that disobedience brings.
How much greater now will the punishment be?
Israel’s new eagle with tanks and planes try
To save themselves from Babylon’s slavery
Ignore the one who spoke
In these last days by His Son
From the top of the cedar he has taken
A tender twig - noticed by none
And planted it high where it can never be shaken
All the trees of the field will know
That only those by God’s eagle planted
Will not turn their roots
Towards Egypt enchanted
Will he who does such things escape?
Zedekiah’s eagle is man’s strong arm,
Your best life now
“Stand with Israel” and you’ll be kept from harm
The true Israel weeps
While his flesh ignores
The righteous branch
Come to end all wars
Trees once thought high will be made low
While the tree on the mountain
Shelters the lowly in their nest
Having found in true Israel their Sabbath rest.
