This is the season of life where you will be asked over and over, so what are you going to do? Where will you go? What will you study? What is the new purpose of your life? May I encourage you by contrasting the visits I recently had with two men who were trained as chiropractors and were both skilled and disciplined enough to become very wealthy? One did indeed become very wealthy. The other recognized a futility in this pursuit and turned his efforts to pursue a different kind of wealth. As you take your next step, will you consider these brief contrasting views from the “back porches” of these two men?
This is the view from the back porch of a wealthy chiropractor whose windows I cleaned recently. This beautiful view and the other views that they can purchase with their wealth will soon pass away (James 4:4, 2 Peter 3:10-12). During my time interacting with this chiropractor and his wife I was impressed by the futility and vanity of their tremendous wealth. They were working feverishly to take care of these earthly possessions that will soon pass away and there was no peace in their hearts as they through fear of death are subject to lifelong slavery (Hebrews 2:15).
This is one of the countless views from the “back porch” of an ex-chiropractor and his wife and those who have joined them, who gave up their earthly wealth to serve Christ in Ukraine and all-over Eastern Europe. These views are the faces of precious souls whom God was pleased to save from sin through the proclamation of His gospel. These souls and countless more are Christ’s sheep who will be forever with Christ and these beautiful sights will never pass away.
